Curtis, a serial entrepreneur, embarked on a career to change the world. Most immediately, Curtis is Chairman and Managing Director of Marketing Xchange Worldwide, LLC. Prior to forming his successor firm, Marketing Xchange Worldwide, Stephens served as Managing Director of another privately held firm with a wide-ranging portfolio of businesses. Most of the business enterprises developed and grown during Stephens' tenure at that firm are now part of Marketing Xchange Worldwide's diverse and innovative portfolio of business partnerships including holdings in transportation, real estate development, sports and entertainment properties, and international trade.
Prior to forming Marketing Xchange Worldwide in 2007, Stephens served as President for The Stephens Group, LLC, with responsibility for developing and implementing a long-range development strategy, establishing management systems, client contract negotiation, recruiting, and arranging early stage debt and equity financing for the professional sports practice. The Stephens Group, LLC, became a full-service professional sports practice working primarily with National Football League (NFL) clients and varied other professional athlete’s on contract negotiations, public relations, endorsements, post career counseling, program development, professional alliances and day-to-day business management.
For ten years, Stephens’ professional activities were exclusively focused in finance management for publicly (fortune 100) and privately held companies in the management consulting, energy, transportation, manufacturing, insurance, hospitality, and financial services industries. Responsible for financial planning & analysis, budgeting, marketing and strategic planning issues, Stephens succeeded in serving as a company expert and key advisor to senior management.
Stephens began his post-college career as a Management Trainee Associate for First Fidelity Bank N.A., now Wachovia Bank, which was a non-rotational, one-year training program for recent college graduates in commercial lending. Certified by the National Football League Players Association as a Certified Contract Advisor, in 1997 Stephens received a MBA from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. As a full scholarship Division-I A student/athlete, a three-year starter at running-back, captain of Rutgers University Varsity Football Team in 1987, Stephens, a Somerdale, New Jersey native, currently resides in Glen Allen, VA with his wife and two daughters.
A frequent speaker, Stephens has been mentioned in numerous national and international media outlets (Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, NV Magazine, Sporting News, and Sports Illustrated). His ideas and views have been shared as an Adjunct Instructor (Virginia State University) and guest lecturer (Virginia Commonwealth University Sports Center-Graduate Program). Stephens has served on multiple professional panels relating to emerging issues in athletics, sports and entertainment, and a variety of business issues. He also has served on the board of directors of Virginia Commonwealth University Business Society.
